Adolescence is a period of development beginning around age 12 and generally ending around age 20. During this time there is accelerated physical and emotional growth leading to the sexual and psychological maturity of an individual. In today’s society there are a number of issues that inhibit the natural unfolding of each individual’s maturity. Some of these issues may be based on difficulties with family relationships, peer relationships, academic and social productivity, and identity formation. Psychotherapy for adolescents generally includes individual therapy with the adolescent as well as family therapy which will include other members of the family.
