Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that develops after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which physical harm occurred or was threatened. Individuals with PTSD usually have one or more of the following symptoms for at least a month:

  • Reliving the events are upsetting thoughts or flashbacks
  • Avoidance of activities that remind the person of the original event
  • Loss of interest in important activities
  • Feeling on guard all the time to protect oneself
 

Individuals with PTSD can be treated with systematic desensitization and/or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
